The gap

Candidates are taught to design integrated lessons. They rarely get to hold a whole one.

Methods courses run on theory, fragments, and the occasional dated exemplar. Textbook units lag years behind the classroom, and the topics that matter most next — AI literacy, computational thinking, computing woven into every subject — barely appear at all. So candidates learn the principles of good design without ever teaching a lesson that fully embodies them.

Every lesson is a complete, standards-aligned exemplar of integrated, hands-on design — the kind candidates are told to build but rarely get to study whole. Assign one, then have your class name what makes it work.

Practice reps

Candidates rehearse teaching on a lesson that already runs — microteaching, peer feedback in trios, and a real artifact for the placement folder. They practice on something that works instead of debugging their own first draft.

Framework literacy

Each lesson maps to CSTA, CCSS, NGSS, ISTE, C3, and Core Arts, and follows one predictable instructional structure. Candidates learn to read standards and a research-backed design framework by working inside a real one.

Freyja Labs was founded by a STEM-education scholar who directs a school of teacher education at a major research university and has led multiple NSF-funded studies of teacher preparation, together with an engineering educator and hardware-security researcher. These lessons are the product of that pairing — rigorous pedagogy and genuine technical depth, informed by a peer-reviewed instructional-design framework the founders developed. Every candidate can subscribe free to the monthly Unplugged Drop and keep it after they graduate. What does a cohort or department license cost?
